“WE CARE, WE SHARE, FOR THE AUDIOVISUAL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT”
FILM AND VIDEO TRAINING INSTITUTIONS ASSOCIATION

Since 2009, there has been a rise of film schools, media training institutions, capacity building organizations that have periodically organized film training labs or production labs and seek to create a basis for professionalism and qualitative film productions which will eventually lay the foundation for other representation and performance of Ugandan films and filmmakers in the global markets.

Uganda today needs the promotion of film education and training of a highly skilled and versatile work force, which can promote indigenous film developments as well as adapt to the emerging technology and skilled patterns.

It is against this background that on 12th, October, 2016 Uganda communication commission after meeting the filmmakers  at Lugogo in an attempt to develop and organize the film industry called  for the  formation of THE UGANDA FILM COUNCIL. The national umbrella body-[UFC] to spearhead the Uganda Film industry`s development and organization. The membership of Uganda film council was through associations hence the formation of FILM AND VIDEO TRAINING INSTITUTION ASSOCIATION.

In regards to the above we presented to the interim committee that a key attribute of any nation or region is its human capital and in terms of the film sector this correlates with the talent of the individual practitioners and professionals working in the sector. This implies that the talent pool has to be well-educated, with high level, adaptable and modern skills that can easily be employable in any other corners of the world.

In many of the most established, mature film economies around the world there is a public support body, usually at national level but often also at regional level, providing an integrated set of support initiatives aimed at different points along the film production value chain and one most important support is geared towards initial training for new entrants as well as advanced training and networking opportunities for established film professionals.

As film training and capacity building institution / organizations, we do believe that with FVTIA as an umbrella body in place, the film education will eventually reach a landmark in Uganda. We believe that in all ways and in all due respect the efforts and contributions of the training institutions which include film schools, media training institutions, capacity building organizations will eventually lay the foundation for a healthy completion among existing and aspiring filmmakers who represent the bigger percentage of the future generation of professional filmmakers.
